Cynthia Milian Diserens is a Board Certified attorney in Immigration and Nationality Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and a senior associate at Powers Law Group in Houston, Texas. As a Houston immigration attorney, Cynthia focuses on complex family-based immigration matters and provides strategic guidance to individuals and families navigating the U.S. immigration system.
Cynthia earned her Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law Houston, where she served as President of the Hispanic Law Students Association and was an editor for the International Trade Journal. During law school, she developed a strong commitment to serving immigrant communities and advocating for equitable access to legal representation.
Cynthia began her legal career in 2018 at Powers Law Group, where she handled a wide range of family-based immigration cases, including adjustment of status, consular processing, waivers, and petitions for immigrant family members. Her work focuses on helping clients navigate complex immigration processes while protecting their ability to remain with their families in the United States.
In 2021, Cynthia joined the Harris County Public Defender’s Office as an Assistant Public Defender in the Immigration Section. In this role, she advised attorneys in the felony, misdemeanor, and juvenile divisions—as well as private court-appointed counsel—on the immigration consequences of criminal charges for non-citizens. She also represented detained individuals in the Bail Division, advocating before magistrate judges to secure their release. This experience gives Cynthia a deep understanding of the intersection between criminal law and immigration law (crimmigration) and allows her to better protect clients facing complex legal challenges.
Cynthia previously served as President of the Mexican American Bar Association of Houston, one of the largest Hispanic legal organizations in Texas. Through this leadership role, she has remained actively engaged in the Houston legal community and continues to advocate for increased access to legal services and representation for immigrant families.
In 2023, Cynthia returned to Powers Law Group, where she represents clients in a broad range of family-based immigration matters, helping individuals secure lawful status, reunite with family members, and pursue long-term immigration solutions.
As the daughter of Guatemalan immigrants, Cynthia brings both personal understanding and professional dedication to her work. Her background fuels her commitment to helping immigrant families navigate the legal system with confidence and clarity.
Outside of her legal practice, Cynthia enjoys spending time with her family, serving at her church, long-distance running, and traveling.
